I created this portrait of Shigeru Miyamoto - Nintendo's pioneering lead game designer - with type for my IMS 259 (Art and Digital Tools) class. Throughout the piece, I used the Botanica Sans font as I saw it to be bold and playful, fitting for Miyamoto's personality. I used Adobe Illustrator's Type on a Path tool, its Create Outlines function, and various effects to synthesize words and letters into Miyamoto's likeness. The left side of Miyamoto's suit mentions Nintendo's consoles, the right side speaks of his personality/identity/values, and his undershirt shows what he has said before. His hair illustrates his legacy as a game designer, while his face and neck show the many games and franchises he has created. He also has an epic smile.
